The aim of this article is to provide guidelines for designing tasks that promote the teaching of statistics and probability through stories for children aged 3 to 12. To do so, we first describe the important knowledge of statistics and probability and argue for the use of stories in the mathematics classroom. Based on the theoretical and methodological approaches of the Mathematics Teaching Itineraries Approach, the second part presents a selection of children's stories and the corresponding guidelines for teaching statistics and probability. It is concluded that it is necessary to continue making and updating inventories of stories and to analyse their impact in order to promote the teaching of mathematical knowledge in the classroom
