This article offers guidelines for Preschool and Primary teachers to help them promote their pupils' probabilistic competence through authentictasks. The first part defines mathematical competence in general and probabilistic competence in particular, which is conceived as the capacity to access, use, interpret and communicate information and ideas related to probability, in order to carry out and deal effectively with the demands of functions and tasks involving uncertainty and risk in the real world. The competence is treated and developed on the basis of two interrelated aspects: teaching/learning contexts and connections between mathematical knowledge. The second part describes different authentic tasks; i.e. activities that simulate real life situations in a realistic and rational way, in order to develop probabilistic literacy in Preschool and Primary school classrooms
