The purpose of this paper is to dicuss some critical issues to advance in social inclusion and
citizen participation of people with disabilities (in particular, intelectual disabilities) within the framework of
the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN, 2006). Following the idea that education
offers a way for the construction of citizen identity and its values, it is proposed and discussed here three
challenges related to different articles of the CRPD, namely: 1) the right to a inclusive, equitable and quality
education, 2) support for young people with disabilities in their process of transition to adult life, and 3) the
right of persons with disabilities to participate in the construction of knowledge
