This text has two parts. This first part describes the ideas by which some critics, writers and intellectuals of the xx century understood the literature and culture of the xvii century. Our hypothesis is that, in this period, there are two perspectives to interpret the Baroque. On one hand, some authors propose that the Baroque returns in modern times; on the other hand, there are critics who argue that its main characteristics are inseparable from the historical context of 1600. In the conclusions we draw some ideas shared by both approaches ​
