La Transición a los estudios universitarios: abandono o cambio en el primer año en la universidad

The transition between High School and College or University is completed after the first year of University; the cases of withdrawal or change of studies or University take place mostly during this first year. A sample of students from the University of Girona that did not register for the second year of studies following their first year were surveyed using a questionnaire to identify the main reasons that caused them to withdraw or change their concentration. We group them in four blocks: low quality of the education, low learning potential of the student, doubts about the right choice of what subject to study, and other circumstantial factors (financial, compatibility with labor occupation, etc...). We analyze differences depending on the classification variables. We suggest actions that University can develop in order to prevent and solve institutional problems (cost, prestige) and, especially, the personal problems (feelings of failure or frustration that the withdrawal or change produces in the student) ​
