The present article furthers the study of the origins of the emergence of the posthumous fame of the painter Antoni Viladomat, centring especially on the relations of the inquisition prosecutor Nicolás Rodríguez Laso with Antonio Ponz and the enlightened circles of his day. It also adds a varied selection of new works to his catalogue, including the heretofore unknown self-portrait of the paintor ​
