It is essential that teachers are adequately prepared to attend to all their students' needs; however, many teachers mobilise beliefs about the characteristics of these students and how to approach teaching that may hinder the support of students with special educational needs. From this perspective, the aim of this study is to analyse the beliefs of 68 pre-school and primary school teachers about the characteristics of students with autism or high abilities and about the measures to provide them with appropriate support in the mathematics classroom. In accordance with the purpose of the research, an exploratory-descriptive study has been designed. The results show, on the one hand, that teachers express beliefs that may hinder the adequate educational attention of these students in primary education and, in particular, in the mathematics classroom; on the other hand, a greater lack of knowledge about the characteristics of students with high abilities and a worse attention to these students in the mathematics classroom is observed. On the other hand, there is a greater lack of knowledge about the characteristics of gifted students and a poorer attention to these pupils in the mathematics classroom
