English Title. Violence in the staging of El Hamete de Toledo. AlmaViva Teatro production (2009). El Hamete de Toledo is one of the famous works of Lope de Vega within his theatrical corpus of the Moorish genre due to the main theme of the comedy which is slavery. The Anti-Moorish campaign, which emerged after the expulsion of the Moors between 1609-1614 and was supported greatly by the playwrights of the Golden Age Drama, has as its main objective to justify the inhuman acts of Christians against the Muslim community. Therefore, during that time there are many works that reflect a ridiculed and despised image of the Moors, among which El Hamete de Toledo stands out for the great level of violence and rejection that the Moorish character receives. In this article I will analyze this fundamental aspect of the text in its staging directed by César Barló in 2009, due to the relevance of the subject to current world and its close relationship with racism and otherness. In this way, I will explain about the director’s reading of the play, how the scenic space of the performance is constructed, which elements are used to stage the violence inflicted against the other, etc. Based on this analysis, it is concluded that César Barló resorts to a classic work to make the 21st century public reflect on a current social controversy, address a problem that has never been resolved, sadly current: intolerance towards those who are not like us ​
