English Title. La toma de Sevilla por el santo rey Fernando by Cristóbal de Morales Guerrero: Theatre and Painting in the Service of Ferdinand III the Saint’s Canonisation Process. La toma de Sevilla por el santo rey Fernando is a historical drama written by dramatist Cristóbal de Morales Guerrero whose aim is to promote the character of king Ferdinand III of Castile during a period in which his canonisation process was in progress. One of the strategies employed by the playwright on this purpose is to recreate on stage several scenes which follow an existing pictural tradition well recognised by the audience. They deploy the king’s virtues and feats in an impressing and visual way contributing to reinforce the iconography in the interest of the canonisation. In this context, Seville plays an important role because it is shown as one of Ferdinand’s achievements, who conquered it, and a city whose prestige is due to its relationship with the king
