Probability has been introduced into the Early Childhood Education curriculum in some countries due to its usefulness in analysing risks, predicting outcomes and making informed decisions. From this perspective, the aim of this article is twofold: on the one hand, to present the main purposes and applications of probability teaching in Early Childhood Education; and, on the other hand, to present guidelines and resources for designing and implementing grounded teaching practices at this stage. From a methodology based on content analysis, two categories have been exposed around the purposes: in real life and in mathematics; while, with respect to teaching practices, five categories have been presented based on suitability criteria: real situations, manipulative materials and games, stories, technological and graphic resources, emphasising the pedagogy strategies involved and the cognitive demand associated with each type of resource. From these results, it is concluded that the described purposes, applications and practices of probability teaching can be a support point to carry out a teaching that promotes the progressive development of probabilistic literacy from the earliest ages
