The concept of identity has begun to be more a stone in the road than a working tool. Only a review that explains the context in which this phenomenon has occurred and new proposals that allow us to reuse it again will give the analytical power as in its origins. The process of precarious institutionalization of the field of Communication Studies and the theoretical paradigm that support it has needed the concept of identity to make it a spearhead. Although useful in many ways, this has been, over time, an obstacle to think new topics, to make overcoming proposals or diverging from what is academically accepted. The concept of identity must not anchor us, but we should use it as a working tool and as a political weapon to our service.Regarding to identities, we can study the institutions that produce them and their power of inculcation, as well as the texts produced, the social imaginary that hold them, and the subjects that live those identities. Knowing this identity is a multiple sociocultural processthat compels us to build a complex theoretical-methodological framework, multifaceted and pluricausal, capable to explain this whole that spills over the world, which is the cultures ​
