We analysed 142 pre-service teachers’ beliefs about the nature of mathematics
and, more specifically, their view of mathematical processes. The data obtained by
questionnaire demonstrate that the ways of acquiring and using mathematical contents
are not adequately considered. These results reveal the need to work the mathematical
processes during the training teacher to promote mathematical competence
