A proposal for the design, management and evaluation of mathematical competence
activities is presented: a review of the term “mathematical competence” is
performed; a sequence of five phases for designing activities arises: mathematisation
context, previous work in the classroom, work in context , further work and formalization;
some key ideas for managing activities are provided; a tool for assessing mathematical
literacy is presented; and it concludes with the presentation of examples of
mathematical competence activities implemented in Pre-escolar and Primary Education
