The present work exposes a general overview of the aspects that constitute the intercultural higher education model in México in their present nine universities. Firstly, the initial problematic and the history of the intercultural universities is exposed for, later, presenting the principles, objectives and foundations, the structure of the curricular design and the academic – administrative organization. Finally, the interculturality is considered as a subject of discussion in the present debate around the European process of convergence and reform of the higher education area, taking the case of psychology as an example of the application of this model ​
