In Fábula de Polifemo y Galatea, Góngora draWs on a sYstem of images, metaphors and ideas from the Neoplatonic and Petrarchan tradition to narrate Galatea’s falling in love. The WaY in Which the nYmph falls in love With Acis, hoWever, is a singular case Within this tradition. This article investigates the originalitY of this amorous process. To do so, it Will first shoW the difference of this episode of the Gongorine epilogue With respect to other similar teXts, antecedents and even possible sources proposed bY critics. The article Will conclude With an attempt to eXplain WhY Góngora opts for a deviation in the use of the Neoplatonic topos.
