Background: Epilepsy is the most common neurological disorder in the world and requires monitoring for individuals affected by it to prevent seizures and serious repercussions such as brain injuries. This monitoring is even more important during pregnancy, as pregnancy can pose a risk in increasing the likelihood of complications for both, the woman and the fetus. To avoid them, good planning and monitoring of the pregnancy are important, as well as appropriate changes in the AEDs to choose safer ones, since certain AEDs can be teratogenic.
An increase in the knowledge of healthcare professionals in this field could help reduce the number of complications and increase safety when dealing with an epileptic pregnant woman, both during monitoring and at the time of delivery.
Objectives: The overall objective of the study is to analyze the knowledge regarding the management of epilepsy during pregnancy among healthcare professionals in the Girona Health Region.
Method: A descriptive, cross-sectional study and quantitative analysis will be conducted. It will be carried out through a survey divided into three main sections: sociodemographic variables, occupational and training variables, and finally the study variables, where the corresponding knowledge will be analyzed. The survey will be distributed to all healthcare professionals specializing in gynecology and obstetrics in the Girona Health Region who are currently actively working or on work leave or sick leave for less than 6 months, through voluntary participation. Consent will be obtained from the Ethics Committee of the Hospital Dr. Josep Trueta de Girona in order to conduct the survey.
Statistical analysis of the data will be performed using the Jamovi software program
