Eating Disorders are a type of psychological pathology that predominantly develop during
adolescence, and currently the incidence of cases is increasing year after year. Furthermore, the
ideal of the aesthetic model, widely disseminated especially through the media and social
networks, contributes to this rise in figures.
To address this issue, we must focus on the prevention of these disorders, as well as on health
promotion, which, according to the WHO (2019), is defined as "a state of complete physical,
mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease".
Consequently, it has been decided to approach the work from the perspective of families, since
given the higher incidence during adolescence, family members can play a very important role
in the prevention of these disorders, provided they have the necessary knowledge on the
subject.
Therefore, the main objective of this Final Degree Project is to promote education among
families of students aged between 12 and 16 years old in schools in the Sants neighborhood as
a method of awareness and future prevention of an eating disorder.
It is a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest study that will consist of an educational explanatory
session at each school. Before the intervention by two nurses, data will be collected through a
form, and afterwards, another form will be administered, so that the effectiveness can be
assessed considering the knowledge acquired, sociodemographic data, as well as their level of
satisfaction.
Finally, this project could contribute to empowering participating families, increasing knowledge
about Eating Disorders, and creating a supportive environment between family and nurse. These
contributions represent a positive impact on health promotion and education, in order to
collaborate in the prevention of the onset of Eating Disorders
