This research project consists in the study, design and construction of an “Augmented Reality Sandbox”, which can be used as a new module at the “Museu de Matemàtiques de Catalunya”, MMACA. The project has been completed with the preparation of educational activities to work on mathematical concepts related to the Sandbox. A Sandbox, as the name suggests, is a box filled with sand, and on top of it there is a sensor and a projector. The sensor captures the height of the sand and sends the data to a computer program. This program calculates the associated contour lines, which are finally represented in different colors on the sand thanks to the projector. If the shape of the sand changes, the contour lines will automatically change and adapt to it. It is a tool that was invented by Oliver Kreylos (University of California, Davis) to easily explain aspects related to contour lines, dams or hydrological basins, in other words, geological, geographical and hydrological concepts. However, in this research project, a more mathematical application has been presented
