The basic idea of Holz’s interpretation of classical German philosophy is that he does not consider it as an evolution before and after Kant, but he exposes it as a unity of an epoch between the key figures of Leibniz and Hegel. In the view of Holz, Leibniz is a classical thinker of the history of dialectical thinking, too. Holz develops this interpretation with the thesis that Leibnizian metaphysics articulates the unity of substance and structure. Substantiality and being-in-relation are ontological aspects which both give structure to being. This paper analyses the consequences of this particular interpretation of Leibniz and it explores the influence of Leibniz on the the own thinking of Holz
