The aim of this study is to assess the changes occurred over the last century along the Catalan Shoreline using historical ecology methods. It has been consulted more than 2000 photographs from the first half of the 20th century and it has been classified the changes according to the type of transformation: (a) disappeared dunes, (b) dunes that have become smaller in size and (c) dunes that have undergone few changes. Multiple Correspondence Analysis (MCA) has used to analyse the relationship between the type of change and other environmental variables: degree of protection (according to IUNC classification) and type of coast (cliffed or low-lying). The results show that in 90% of assessed beaches dunes have disappeared or have become smaller in size. Loss of dune habitat is mainly located in non-protected areas or in areas with low protection. Likewise, more significant changes are located in lowlying coast zones, meanwhile cliffed coasts show few changes, although dunes located there are in general less developed than dunes located in low-lying coasts
