At the Secondary School of Pamplona, Josep Anton Secret, of Empordà origin but soon settled in Girona, taught geography and history to one of the Basque representatives of the Spanish generation of 1898: Pío Baroja. The article traces the personality and conservative ideology of the professor and the reasons why he was removed from his homeland, following the Revolution of 1868. Secret could not return to the Institut of Girona, where he had begun the profession and stood out in the defense of the regime of Isabel II, besides harming companions of ideology opposed to his. Without this setback, the curious portrait of him by the novelist from San Sebastián would not have existed.
A l’Institut de Segon Ensenyament de Pamplona, Josep Anton Secret, d’origen empordanès però aviat instal·lat a Girona, va ensenyar geografia i història a un dels representants bascos de la generació espanyola de 1898: Pío Baroja. L’article ressegueix la personalitat i la ideologia conservadora del professor i els motius pels quals va ser allunyat de la terra natal, arran de la Revolució de 1868. Secret no va poder reintegrar-se a l’Institut de Girona, on havia iniciat la professió i destacat en la defensa del règim d’Isabel II, a més de perjudicar companys d’ideologia contraposada a la seva. Sense aquest contratemps, no hauria existit el retrat curiós que d’ell va traçar el novel·lista de Sant Sebastià.
