La força militar gironina durant la guerra dels Segadors: L'enviament de dues companyies el 1649

Abstract

The article shows the process followed by the municipality of Girona to raise two companies of infantry in 1649, in response to the Spanish offensive. In our analysis, we will focus more on the first company because we can check the effectiveness of the different incentives that were approved to accelerate the recruitment of soldiers (bonus to enlist and free examinations to the confraria or the General Studies of Girona). On the other hand, despite the fact that the second military unit had all the incentives from the very beginning, the lack of success made it necessary to look for soldiers in other areas, especially in Olot and its surroundings. In addition, aspects such as the economic cost of the companies, financing, desertions and the main war events that took place in the war will also be studied.

En l’article es mostra el procés que seguí la municipalitat gironina per constituir dues companyies d’infanteria el 1649 com a resposta a l’ofensiva espanyola. En l’anàlisi, ens centrarem més en la primera companyia, perquè podem comprovar l’eficàcia dels diferents incentius que s’aprovaren per accelerar el reclutament de soldats (prima per enrolar-s’hi i gratuïtat dels exàmens a la confraria o als Estudis Generals de Girona). Paradoxalment, tot i que en la segona unitat militar ja s’oferiren tots els incentius des del primer moment, l’escàs èxit obligà a buscar voluntaris altres zones, especialment a Olot i el seu entorn. A part, també s’estudien aspectes com el cost econòmic de les companyies, el finançament, les desercions i els principals fets bèl·lics que van tenir lloc.
