L'eminència grisa: biografia, singularitat i influència d'Amadeu Hurtado i Miró (1875-1936)

Abstract

This research aims to reconstruct the biography of the lawyer, politician, and journalist Amadeu Hurtado, to put him back in his place as the protagonist of the history of the first third of the twentieth century in Catalonia. As we have can show, thanks to unpublished documentation and an exhaustive research work in newspaper archives and archives, Hurtado played a absolutly relevant role from the political, legal, journalistic, intellectual and citizen point of view, beyond his role as a witness and memorialist. An early Republican, with a particular and modern conception of Catalanism, Amadeu Hurtado evolved from a radical youth to the liberal centre, in parallel with the rise of his social prestige as a lawyer and intellectual. Although he held various political positions –such as deputy or minister– and having been offered many others, he was aware of the effectiveness and the new power of the media, and he preferred to influence from the press of Barcelona and Madrid. Aquest treball d’investigació vol reconstruir la biografia de l’advocat, polític i home de premsa Amadeu Hurtado, per a tornar-lo a situar en el seu lloc com protagonista de la història del primer terç del segle XX a Catalunya. Gràcies a documentació inèdita i una exhaustiva feina de recerca en hemeroteca i arxius, hem pogut demostrar que Hurtado va tenir un paper absolutament rellevant des del punt de vista polític, jurídic, periodístic, intel·lectual i ciutadà, més enllà del seu paper com a testimoni i memorialista. Republicà de primera hora, amb una particular i moderna concepció del catalanisme, Amadeu Hurtado va evolucionar des d’una joventut radical cap al centre liberal, en paral·lel a l’ascens del seu prestigi social com a advocat i intel·lectual. Malgrat que va ocupar diversos càrrecs polítics –com ara diputat o conseller– li van ser oferts molts d’altres, era conscient de l’eficàcia d’actuar entre bambolines i del nou poder dels mitjans de comunicació, pel que va preferir influir des de la premsa de Barcelona i Madrid.
