The birth and the culture that surrounds it has a prehistoric origin that, over the years, has evolved to the current technocratic model. There is a wide range of possible positions so that mothers can give birth according to their will. Today, the vast majority of hospitals use the lithotomy position as a recurring stance. It is among the most widely used, despite recommendations from scientific evi- dence and the World Health Organization (WHO) not to use due to its inconven- iences. Objectives: Analyze the advantages and disadvantages of the lithotomy position, establish a relationship between births accompanied by midwives involving the lithotomy position, associate the lithotomy position and the performance of the episiotomy, compare the lithotomy position with the vertical positions and analyze the maternal perception of the lithotomy position
