The professional role of the director of communication is very complex and locates its hierarchical competences, to staff level, distributed among several functional areas. The literature shows that this position, with a recent origin, has a vague job profile and is in a still immature stage, leading to an absolute lack of unanimity in its name. A cross-sectional study of the 2015 directory of the Dircom association has been performed to identify and analyze the various nomenclatures given to the department that their partners lead, as well as the professional position of its head -which has proved to be consistent with the literature review-, in order to determine their prevalence and serve as a reference point for future research on the subject of study, allowing to check whether if, over the years, the current tendency of terminological dispersion is maintained or, on the contrary, some concentration occurs around any particular name
