L'educació popular

Abstract

The article presents briefly what popular education consists of as it is understood today in France (a concept that in Catalonia we identify, to a large extent with the approaches of social education based on socio-educational support, community development and the Paulo Freire proposals in relation to adult education). The article describes its characteristics, principles and orientation, always in favor of progress and social transformation. Emphasis is placed on emancipatory orientation and action through bonding, collective action and militant commitment to justice and social emancipation. The purpose of social transformation of the popular education project is subject to two objectives: awareness and the development of the power to act. Following is a historical tour of popular education in France, which highlights the role played by the Maisons des Jeunes et de la Culture, of the early twentieth century, refers to the decline that lived in the decade of the 90s (with the weakening of the welfare state and the rise of individualism) and survival today, in which it continues to be a benchmark for social work professionals, and is still represented by relevant institutions such as the AFEV, the Léo Lagrange centers, Les Petits Débrouillards or the CEMÉA

Inici Pedagogia i Treball Social Vol. 9, No 2 (2020) TouhamiL'educació popularSlimane TouhamiL’article presenta molt breument en què consisteix l’educació popular tal com s’entén avui a França (un concepte que a Catalunya identifiquem, en bona mesura amb els plantejaments de l’educació social basats en l’acompanyament socioeducatiu, el desenvolupament comunitari i les propostes Paulo Freire en relació a l’educació d’adults). A l’article se’n descriuen les característiques, principis i orientació, sempre en favor del progrés i la transformació social. Se’n destaca l’orientació emancipadora i la l’acció a través del vincle, l’acció col·lectiva i el compromís militant amb la justícia i l’emancipació social. La finalitat de transformació social que té el projecte de l’educació popular està sotmesa a dos objectius: la conscienciació i el desenvolupament del poder d’actuació. Tot seguit es fa un recorregut històric de l’educació popular a França, que posa en valor el paper que van jugat les Maisons des Jeunes et de la Culture, de principis del segle XX, fa referència al declivi que va viure en arribar la dècada dels 90 (amb l’afebliment de l’estat del benestar i l’augment de l’individualisme) i la pervivència en l’actualitat, en què continua sent un referent per als professionals del treball social, i segueix representada per institucions rellevants com l’AFEV, els centres Léo Lagrange, Les Petits Débrouillards o els CEMÉA
