This article offers a criminological comparison between street gangs and other groups associated with organized crime. In particular, attention is paid to the national Spanish legislation governing the new offenses of «criminal organization» and «criminal group». The article discusses the main features that characterize both organized crime and street gangs. It highlights the distinctive constituent aspects of street gangs and organized crime in order to clarify the differences and emphasize the unique nature of each of these phenomena
