Introduction: The concept of dual pathology implies the coexistence of two disorders that occur at the same time but that come from different clinical nature, such as a mental disorder and a substance abuse disorder. The Krueger's study of twins agrees that problems of antisocial behavior, substance use, and some personality traits, such as aggression and impulsiveness, often coincide. The difficult evaluation of the dual pathology hinders its diagnosis and the poor adherence to the treatment of this type of users affects its success, facts that complicate the reintegration in the community of the people who suffer it. The first step in combating dual pathology is to make the population, especially the most vulnerable, aware of the risks involved in the consumption of toxic to mental health. Objective: To analyze the awareness of the damage of the consumption of toxic in the evolution of the psychiatric disorder, before the admission and at the time of compensation of the disease, during the stay of the users of the Unitat de Destintoxicació I Patologia Dual of the IAS. Material and methods: The methodology used has been the qualitative approximation by the semi-structured interview made at half of the income and at a time of compensation of the disease, to the users with dual pathology of the detoxification unit and dual pathology of the Parc Hospitalari Martí i Julià. There has also been a quantitative analysis of the variables with the descriptive data of the sample, collected from the medical report and the clinical history in the data collection booklet. The sample consists of 5 members of the unit with the diagnosis of dual pathology. The revised bibliography is compared to the results of the descriptive data and the categories and subcategories
