Les "Cartes d'Itàlia" de Josep Pla: estudi i edició criticogenètica

Abstract

ENG- Despite being one of the most prolific and widely republished authors of twentieth-century Catalan literature, the work of Josep Pla (1897-1981) often presents typographical errors and alterations beyond his control, which have been perpetuated throughout successive editions. This dissertation offers a study and a critical-genetic edition of Cartes d’Itàlia (1955), with the aim of providing a reliable text that is faithful to both the language and the style of the writer. Firstly, the study examines the author’s initial encounters with Italian culture, a decisive connection that motivated him to dedicate a book to Italy. It then analyses the process of composition of the volume, as well as the genetic development undergone be the texts it comprises. In this respect, the study of textual variants is complemented by a comparative edition of the published witnesses of each text, which facilitates comparative scholarship and demonstrates that the writer did not simply recover previously published works, but subjected them, before incorporating them into the volume, to a meticulous process of transformation. Finally, the complete text of Cartes d’Itàlia is presented in a critical and annotated edition, established, for the first time, through the collation of the entire preserved manuscript, typescript and printed tradition. Taken as a whole, the dissertation opens up a new path for the study of Pla and, in particular, of his creative method

CAT- Tot i ser un dels escriptors més prolífics i reeditats de la literatura catalana del segle XX, l’obra de Josep Pla (1897-1981) presenta, sovint, errates i manipulacions alienes a la seva voluntat, que s’han perpetuat al llarg de les diverses edicions. Aquesta tesi ofereix un estudi i una edició criticogenètica de les Cartes d’Itàlia (1955), amb l’objectiu de proporcionar un text fidedigne i respectuós amb la llengua i l’estil de l’escriptor. En primer lloc, l’estudi examina els primers contactes de l’autor amb la cultura italiana, un vincle decisiu que el va motivar a dedicar un llibre a Itàlia. A continuació, s’analitza el procés de gestació del volum, així com el recorregut genètic que van experimentar els textos que l’integren. En aquest sentit, l’estudi de les variants es complementa amb una edició acarada dels testimonis editats de cada text, que facilita la tasca comparatística i evidencia que l’escriptor no es limitava a recuperar escrits publicats prèviament, sinó que abans d’incloure’ls en el volum els sotmetia a un procés de transformació minuciós. Finalment, es presenta, en edició crítica i anotada, el text complet de les Cartes d’Itàlia, establert, per primera vegada, a partir de la col·lació de tota la tradició manuscrita, mecanoscrita i editada conservada.
