La insòlita història d'un os que va ser tingut per banya de ren i l'inici de la prehistòria paleolítica a Catalunya

Abstract

The chance discovery made by Pere Alsius in 1868 in the Bora Gran d’en Carreras de Serinyà of what he thought was a piece of reindeer antler caught the attention of the Royal Academy of Sciences and Arts of Barcelona. It also interested Édouard Harlé, who in 1882 carried out in the Bora Gran the first Palaeolithic excavation in Catalonia. It eventually turned out that it was not a piece of antler, but a rib from another animal. After a few years, Pere Alsius was able to demonstrate that there were indeed reindeer remains in the Bora Gran, although only represented by pieces of antler. The presence of this animal in Catalonia south of the Pyrenees has been non-existent or rare throughout prehistory, just like that of other animals of very cold climates

La troballa casual feta per Pere Alsius el 1868 a la Bora Gran d’en Carreras de Serinyà (Pla de l’Estany) del que li semblà un tros de banya de ren cridà l’atenció de la Reial Acadèmia de Ciències i Arts de Barcelona. També interessà Édouard Harlé, qui el 1882 va fer la primera excavació paleolítica a Catalunya. Finalment resultà que no era un tros de banya, sinó d’una costella d’un altre animal. Així i tot, al cap d’uns anys Pere Alsius va poder demostrar que a la Bora Gran hi havia realment restes de ren, encara que només representades per trossos de banya. La presència d’aquest animal a la Catalunya del sud dels Pirineus ha estat al llarg de la prehistòria inexistent o rara, igual que la d’altres animals de clima molt fred
