Abstract

The article analyses the emergence and consolidation of photographic imagery in Girona during the 19th century, within a global context of technological and cultural transformation. It highlights the coexistence of engraving and photography, as well as the key role of local portraitists, engravers, and publishers. It also examines early illustrated publications, albums, cartes de visite, and postcards. Finally, it emphasizes the relationship between tradition and modernity in the visual construction of the city

L’article analitza la irrupció i consolidació de la imatge fotogràfica a Girona durant el segle XIX, en el marc d’un context global de transformació tecnològica i cultural. Destaca la coexistència del gravat i la fotografia, així com el paper clau de retratistes, gravadors i editors locals. També examina les primeres publicacions il·lustrades, àlbums, targetes de visita i postals. Finalment, s’emfasitza la relació entre tradició i modernitat en la construcció visual de la ciutat
