This article examines the role of the Girona Hospice as a space for work and training between 1780 and 1963. Far from being merely a charitable institution, the hospice operated as a true urban factory, introducing manufacturing activities and serving as a key platform for youth apprenticeship and labour integration, particularly in the textile sector and later in printing. Drawing on archival sources from the Girona Provincial Council and additional materials, the study explores the links between the institution and the labour market, as well as its ability to generate economic activity. The findings show that the hospice not only reflected but also anticipated and energised social and economic transformations in the city of Girona.
