This work explores the history of anthroponyms and family genealogy, focusing on the evolution of names and surnames as elements of identity and transmission within European family structures. Through a historical journey that begins in ancient Rome and extends to the Middle Ages, it analyzes how the family has been the main vehicle for the conservation and inheritance of surnames.
The second part of the work delves into genealogy as a discipline, from its origins in antiquity to its modern consolidation, highlighting the documentary sources that allow the reconstruction of family lines: civil, ecclesiastical, notarial, military and general archives, including digital resources.
Next, the graphic representation of families is explained through ascending and descending genealogical tables, and a practical case of genealogical research focused on the Riera family is presented
