This research work explores the history and importance of mineral and medicinal waters in various locations in Catalonia, with special attention to the municipality of Amer and its emblematic Balneari Amer Palatin. Based on a historical and documentary approach, the development of the spa activity from its origins to its decline is analyzed, highlighting key figures such as Dr. Pi i Gibert and Josep Junquera Ruscalleda, who promoted the business between the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The work also compares the situation of Amer with other Catalan towns recognized for their mineral and medicinal waters, such as Santa Coloma de Farners, Sant Hilari Sacalm and Caldes de Malavella, highlighting the geological characteristics, the therapeutic properties of the waters and the socioeconomic context that favored the development of the spas
