ENG- This doctoral thesis focuses on the validation of psychometric instruments to assess family functioning and the quality of interaction between preschool-aged children and their attachment figures in the Ecuadorian context. The research stems from the need to have culturally adapted tools that enable the observation, analysis, and coding of these dimensions in the local population. Three studies were conducted in the city of Machala. The first adapted the NCFAS scale with a sample of 470 families, showing good statistical fit and identifying three key dimensions: parenting capacities, environment, and child well-being. The second study developed and validated the new CIPAS scale using video recordings of 24 child–caregiver dyads, obtaining high interrater reliability (κ = 0.88), with medium scores in communication and emotional expression, and lower scores in play quality. The third study analyzed symbolic play using an existing observational scale and found that both children and caregivers performed below age-expected levels. The findings highlight the importance of using locally validated instruments to better understand family and child dynamics and to promote more sensitive and enriching interactions in early childhood
