On July 12, 2022, Law 15/2022, of July 12, comprehensive law on equal treatment and non-discrimination, or better known as the Zerolo Law, was passed. This law is born from an initiative that seeks to reduce both anti-Gypsy hate crimes and any other type of discrimination against other groups, such as aporophobia (hatred against the poor). Its main objective was to reform Articles 22 and 510 of the Penal Code so that anti-Gypsyism is considered a hate crime punishable by one to four years. Following this reform, I try to offer my opinion, as a future roma lawyer, on whether this reform has practical application or simply emerged as a political compromise without real expectations or consequences. In this way, I will analyze the reasons for the lack of application of Article 510 of the Criminal Code regarding the widespread use by courts of the aggravating circumstance of Article 22.4 of the Criminal Code. Therefore, through this legal work, I aim to provide an overview of the situation of roma in Spain: the conflicts and problems they have faced in the past, the current legal situation of the people, as well as the main legislative issues that we still have to face as a society. Through these three perspectives: the present, the past, and the future, I aim to make the reader reflect on the significant legislative differences that still exist between the majority population and the roma people
