This study analyses the recruitment and radicalisation processes of women within the Islamic State, highlighting the diversity of pathways and various terrorist profiles. It underscores the significance of comprehending recruitment mechanisms through real examples. To achieve this, the complexity of attaining a consensus on the distinct influence of attitude, contextual and historical factors that contribute to the involvement of women in these terrorist groups is considered. A section is dedicated to analysing the role of women within the organisation, questioning whether their presence is based on a collaboration with men or whether it is more oriented towards a type of neo-slavery rooted in sexual relations and the degradation women’s roles in the family nucleus. The findings highlight the role of attitudes such as hatred and frustration, as well as problems of identity, social disaffection and perception of injustice as relevant factors. From a gender perspective, the radicalisation and participation of women in extremist groups continuesto be an under-studied area. Hence, this research seeks to address the phenomenon of radicalization and fill the informative bias through a gender perspective
