“Sin flor, porque su sombra no ha llegado”: Joaquín Romero de Cepeda y el clientelismo político-literario en tiempos de Felipe II

Share
This article outlines the political context of the work of Joaquín Romero de Cepeda (c. 1540 - c. 1590), a humanist from Badajoz, on the basis of his patronage relationships. First of all, his life trajectory is reconstructed from the scarce documentation available and especially from the information contained in his own books, comparing the existing bibliography and providing some new information. Then historiographical sources are used to locate his patrons and dedicators in the courtly network of the time, all linked to a certain extent to the so-called «Papist party».
