Fiestas y escritura conventual femenina en torno a la beatificación de Teresa de Jesús (1614)

Abstract

English title. Festivities and women’s conventual writing around the beatification of Teresa of Jesus (1614). The beatification of Teresa de Jesús brought with it an unprecedented festive programme, which was organised by the Order of Carmel, as described in the reports of events and the books of the feast. This study aims to demonstrate the leading role played by the women’s convents in the development of the festivities, which were very important in the context of the Baroque hagiographic feast, in general, and for the Order of Carmel, in particular, due to their importance in view of the canonisation. It is divided into two sections: firstly, we analyse the festivities organised in the women’s convents, which we know about thanks to the reports written by the priors. Next, we will present the texts of Carmelite conventual writing: the reports of events and the poems that took part in the poetic competitions. Our aim is to highlight the important role played by the nuns in the development of the festivities and in the survival of the collective memory of the Carmelite monastery

La beatificación de Teresa de Jesús culminó en un programa festivo sin precedentes, dispuesto por la Orden del Carmelo, del que son reflejo las relaciones de sucesos y los libros de la fiesta. Este estudio pretende demostrar el protagonismo que tuvieron los conventos femeninos en el desarrollo de unos festejos que resultaron clave para la Orden del Carmelo, por su importancia de cara al proceso de canonización. Se articula en torno a dos bloques: en primer lugar, se analizan los festejos organizados en los conventos femeninos, de los que tenemos noticia gracias a las relaciones escritas, en su mayoría, por los priores. A continuación, nos adentramos en el universo de la escritura conventual carmelita, dando cuenta de los textos escritos por las propias monjas, en forma de relaciones de sucesos y de poemas que concurrieron a los certámenes poéticos. Con todo ello, pretendemos poner de manifiesto el importante papel que desempeñaron las religiosas en el desarrollo de las fiestas y en la pervivencia de la memoria colectiva del Carmelo
