This article proposes an approach to vulvic iconology or cunt art that became popular in feminist art during the 1970s. Against the tendency to reduce them to a reading based on essentialism, we will analyze them in relation to their more immediate political, philosophical and militant context. Thus, we will explore the relationship of these artistic practices with the formulation of female sex as 'the horror of nothing to see', by Luce Irigaray (1977), or the self-help movement, also known as self-knowledge and self-management of sexuality
