ENG- The data from the travel Journal of Francisco de Zamora throughout Catalonia in the late 18th century and the Responses to his Interrogation of more than 300 towns, demonstrate the crucial role women played, regardless of their age, marital status, social origin, and geographical location, in the main productive sectors of the localities where they resided. Both sources confirm their intervention in domestic tasks and in the farm, workshop, or family business, but also their participation in the labour market. The historical sources from the Girona region do not allow us to trace all the activities and tasks described in these documents, but they confirm that rural day labourers and maids had employment opportunities in agricultural operations and domestic service. Their work allowed them to obtain sufficient resources to ensure their subsistence, as they were able to cover their physical, social, and spiritual needs, and to contribute to the maintenance and reproduction of their household. Therefore, their saving capacity and the implications of their work for their future were limited. Despite this, the marital chapters in which brides assert that the dowry was partially or entirely constituted by the money they had earned with their efforts increase considerably. This suggests that much of their remuneration was destined to cover their short-term needs and those of their families. However, they saved a portion in order to constitute or increase the dowry, which would at least allow them to avoid social decline
