Abstract

Per intentar trobar respostes a qüestions sobre la possibilitat de coneixement en ciències socials i als problemes que planteja la teoria de l'elecció racional, en aquest treball contextualitzarem i analitzarem Nuts and Bolts for the Social Sciences (1989) i Explaining Social Behaviour (2007), dues obres sobre metodologia per a les ciències socials del filòsof noruec Jon Elster. Els objectius principals de les pàgines que segueixen són detectar els conceptes clau de la proposta d’Elster i la seva evolució; comprovar la idoneïtat de la proposta d’Elster i comparar-la amb els supòsits bàsics de la microeconomia ortodoxa; i en última instància presentar com la teoria d’Elster pot afectar a la investigació i l’estudi de les ciències socials

In this paper, we are looking for answers about the possibility of knowledge in the Social Sciences and the problems raised by the Theory of Rational Choice. In order to shed some light on the issue, we will contextualize and analyze Nuts and Bolts for the Social Sciences (1989) and Explaining Social Behavior (2007), two works on methodology for the Social Sciences written by the Norwegian philosopher Jon Elster. The main objectives of the following pages are to: detect the key concepts of Elster's proposal and its evolution; test the suitability of Elster's proposal and compare it with the basic ssumptions of orthodox Microeconomics; and ultimately present how Elster's theory can affect research and the study of the Social Sciences
