The applications of artificial intelligence within the realm of policing have engendered a dichotomous approach: on one facet, an escalating fascination and enthusiasm attributed to innovative potentialities; conversely, an assemblage of profound concerns and inquiries regarding its implementation and prospective implications for civil liberties and social justice. Despite the existence of substantial investigations in this domain and the articulation of sundry apprehensions, the subject continues to evoke a plethora of exaggerated expectations. It is incumbent upon us to comprehend the underpinning of these expectations and their provenance, as they frequently derive from business interests and the pledge of an impartial and unbiased deployment of technology within the sphere of policing. This is where social science thinking must come into play, undertaking a pivotal role in the reconfiguration of the discourse amidst proponents and skeptics ​
