Introduction: The spiritual dimension is one more area of the person to be cared for by nursing. One of the definitions of spirituality tells us that it is the dynamic dimension of human life that relates to how people experience, express and/or seek meaning, purpose and transcendence, and how they connect with the moment, self, others, nature, the significant and/or the sacred. Despite the existing literature on appropriate spiritual care, there is currently insufficient knowledge and little training of nurses in this area. For this reason, it is necessary to create spaces where the spirituality of the user can be given relevance. Objectives: The main objective is to find out the methods used to assess the spiritual/transcendental dimension of adults. Methodology: A bibliographic review of the literature was carried out during the months of February, March and April 2023, in the following databases: PubMed, Cinahl and Cochrane Library. Results: 14 articles were selected where methods of assessing spiritual need are described and/or the relationship between the spiritual dimension and illness is studied. Conclusions: In the results different methods of assessment of spiritual need were found, among them 25 instruments, also nursing diagnoses related to spirituality, interventions to deal with spiritual problems have been described and spiritual care has been shown to be positive in the promotion of health and prevention of illness
