Background: Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis is a neurodegenerative disease,
characterised by weakness and muscle atrophy. It affects the motor neurons
located in the brain, brain stem and spinal cord and as a result the body’s ability
to initiate and control muscle movement is damaged. The progressive symptoms
of this disease impairs the quality of life of patients and their families. As a nurse,
it is essential to know and apply a care plan to provide adequate health education
for both patients and families.
Aim: This study aims to know how the diagnosis and progress of ALS affects the
patients and their families, and to study the impact of nursing care and health
education on people with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.
Methodology: The study is a bibliographic review based on scientific evidence.
The databases used are Medline Pubmed, Cochrane, Cinahl and Cuiden Plus. A
total of 8 articles have been analysed over the last 5 years and published in
databases
