Everything fakes has a background that is real in the present case. The one of the Besalú was created by joining two or more documents taking advantage of the coincidence of the names they contained. Santa Maria’s canons and by extension the Besalú’s people believed it was the suppression of their bishopric and they included it in a document’s collection that they sent to Emperor Carlos V that had to end the bishop’s interferences in the canonry.
Tot fals té un rerefons que és real comen el present cas. El de Besalú fou creat unint dos o més documents aprofitant la coincidència dels noms que contenien. Els canonges de Santa Maria i, per extensió, els besaluencs cregueren que era la supressió del seu bisbat i el van incloure en un recull de documents que enviaren a l’emperador Carles V, que havia d‘acabar amb les ingerències dels bisbes.
