This paper reviews the position of the High Courts of Justice of the Autonomous Regions within the Spanish judicial system. After dealing with certain aspects concerning the relationship of these courts with the Autonomous Region in which they are located, it is argued that ensuring the uniformity of the case law regarding the laws passed by the Spanish legislature and the regulations of the central government is the genuinely constitutional function of the Supreme Court, but that this function is compatible with the attribution of cassational functions to the High Courts of Justice in matters of State Law, provided that certain mechanisms are employed to reserve to the Supreme Court the power to settle the discrepancies that may arise between the High Courts of Justice. The paper examines these legal techniques, as well as their advantages and disadvantages
