La música tradicional de Creta: patrimoni, discursos i pràctiques

Abstract

This is a thesis on the processes of cultural heritage, specifically popular or traditional music on the island of Crete (Greece). My main focus has been on the role played by the Greek state, tourism, the media and production, and the musicians of the so-called traditional Cretan music, also known as kritiká, and its effects on island society.

During the research, I focus on the processes, discourses and practices with which the identity of this community is built through musical practices. Indicating which are the attributes that are perceived as own patrimonial elements and their uses, by the group under study.

Although I have adopted a synchronic perspective, I have taken into account a broader chronological framework that has started from the year 1821. The year that official historiography marks as the birth of modern Greece. The study has included musicians, as central actors in musical practice, although other actors, such as the public, producers, music journalists and politicians, have not been excluded

Aquesta és una tesi sobre el processos de patrimonialització de la cultura, concretament de la música popular o tradicional a l'illa de Creta (Grècia). M'he centrat principalment en el paper que ha desenvolupat l'estat grec, el turisme, els mitjans de difusió i producció, i els músics de l'anomenada música tradicional de Creta, altrament coneguda com a kritikà, i els seus efectes en la societat illenca.

Durant la recerca, em centro en els processos, els discursos i les pràctiques amb les quals és construeix la identitat d'aquesta comunitat mitjançant les pràctiques musicals. Tot assenyalant quins són els atributs que es perceben com elements patrimonials propis i els seus usos, pel grup que s'estudia.

Tot i adoptar una perspectiva sincrònica, he tingut en compte un marc cronològic més ampli que ha partit de l'any 1821. Any que la historiografia oficial, marca com el naixement de la Grècia moderna. L'estudi ha inclòs els músics, com actors centrals de la pràctica musical, encara que no s'han exclòs altres actors, com el públic, els productors, els periodistes musicals i els polítics
