Introduction: Adolescence is a stage in life that happens between childhood
and adulthood. This stage is marked by physical, psychological, emotional and
social changes. It is also a stage of emotional instability where it is easy for
teens to be influenced by others, so it is common for them to be vulnerable to
the onset of substance use, especially cannabis, which is the illegal substance it
is more common among teenagers because there are beliefs that make them
start to consume.
Objectives: The present review aims to analyse adolescent’s beliefs about
cannabis use. The aim is to identify adolescent’s beliefs about cannabis use
among the population and identify adolescent’s main beliefs about the effects of
cannabis. Finally, we want to know what types of adolescent beliefs can act as
risk and protection factors for the initiation and/or maintenance of cannabis use.
Material and methods: The methodology of this work has been a bibliographic
review of articles based on scientific evidence in the Medline: Pubmed, DialNet
and TripDataBise databases, between November 2019 and January 2020. The
articles of interest were selected and analysed.
Results: A total of 16 articles are selected to carry out the literature review.
Conclusions: There are several beliefs that lead teens to consume cannabis,
but the main one is social. Teenagers want to fit into their peer group, and this
is the main belief that drives them to consume cannabis. Understanding these
beliefs is a good tool for the role of nurse prevention in adolescents
