This article follows Martí de Riquer’s research achievements from the beginning of his long and fruitful career. The comprehensive scope of Riquer’s interests is well documented, ranging from the literature of the Spanish Golden Age and the Catalan Middle Ages to the wider field of literature in the medieval Romance languages. Alvar focuses on the milestone represented by some of Riquer’s key publications in the three major areas of medieval Romance literature: ep-ics, troubadour lyrics and Arthurian romance
